MobileBeyond covers the new and the different in mobile and wireless space. As with my other mobile websites and blogs, I'm fascinated by mobile technology's effects on human communication and behavior. Cell phones, truly, are changing human behavior around the globe.
They're now 3.3B--more or less--mobile phones in the world. While the U.S. catches up with Europe and Asia/Pacific, mobile is growing like jack rabbits in Africa, India and other developing countries.
Our fellow humans in these and other countries have an advantage over the United States. The telecommunications infrastructure--poles, telephone wires, central offices, switches--never fully developed as in the U.S. As a result, wireless communications using cell phones is essential for commerce and personal communications. Wireless is also less costly than "wired" countries.
Carriers in these countries--and mobile manufacturers--are rapidly deploying cheaper handsets across the developing nations, making it possible, for the first time, a fully digital network covering major and smaller population centers.
Meanwhile, U.S. carriers are rapidly improving their 3G networks to offer data and information services never dreamed up twenty years ago when cell phone service emerged.
