WiMax technology is improving mobile learning among students in the Portland, Oregon schools.

A Portland school, using Clearwire’s WiMax broadband technology, recently demonstrated how mobility positively impacts student learning.

A group of students from Lewis Elementary School, equipped with a laptop, microphone and WiMAX access, connected to the Internet. Students then demonstrated several ways to grow a garden–information shared worldwide on the Web. The event reinforces the old adage: “learn by teaching others.”

Leslie Lord, Director Mobile WiMax Services with the Instructional Telecommunications Foundation, posted to LinkedIn’s CTIA group site, commenting how learning is enhanced combining wireless, mobile technologies outside the classroom.

The pilot was conducted by EBS licensee’s PRETC and The Source For Learning in cooperation with Clearwire.
